I think one of the hardest things about having P in the NICU was that B could not hold him. For 8 months we had been talking to B about being a big sister and holding her brother, loving her brother, being gentle with her new baby brother.....the first time she was able to see him he was in the well baby nursery, Daddy even told her to go eat dinner with the grandparents and when she came back she would be able to hold her brother........oh so quickly how plans change. I must say that was one of the first worries that ran through my mind when the nurse told us he was being moved. I was just heart broken for my little girl.
She was able to see P through the window in the NICU. Children under age 13 can't come into the NICU due to flu/RSV season right now. The nurses were so good to us and allowed her to watch us feed him a bottle and even took pictures of him, printed them out so that she would have a picture of him.
When we finally got him home B was finally able to hold her baby brother......and hasn't stopped asking to hold him since, or help change his diaper, or help rock him!!!!
